Notes on Good Form:
a. Most icons should be small and with few bit planes because:
* Big icons eat up ram: and eat up disk space. Icons are stored
in an uncompressed format so that they can be rendered quickly
but this means they eat up more space than they could.
* Big icons slow down the rendering of windows and all the
icon operations of this programme are slowed down by big
icons. The operating system routines take longer on big icons.
* Big icons need big windows which in turn clutter up the
screen.
b. Nevertheless big icons are excellent for effect and for attracting
attention. That is why there are no restrictions on icon dimensions
in this programme. So for example you could create a 256 colour full
screen icon (640 X 256) with an equally big alternate image.
c. Use a particular small picture for a particular kind of icon. The
iconization feature implements this philosophy for you automatically.
d. If an icon doesn't have a standard picture, then give it a picture
that gives a hint of what the icon does.
